Evan Younger

,  Tyler Pines (drums), Kieran Ledwidge (violin).
I miss the space suits too, but now they can fly. Good exchange?

Remember our beloved friends, Miracles of Modern Science? (Here's our New Music Alert from back in 2008!) WELL--- We've got exciting news! MOMS is finally releasing the hugely anticipated debut LP, "Dog Days." The show is next Tuesday at Pianos in NYC and it is going to be ridiculous. All the info for their release show can be found at the bottom of this post.

Haven't heard the full record yet, but this one is exciting. I've heard a few tracks and I am absolutely dying to hear the whole thing after getting a taste for where their sound is going!  As soon as I get my hands on a copy I'll review it for all of you and let you know how to get yours.

To hold you over, here is MOMS with their rendition of, "Pumped Up Kicks." I know, I know, a seemingly Top 40 hit is sneaking its way onto the pages of the RED BANANA, but fear not, this is a sick track and it will get you up out of your seat before you can stop yourself. When I posted this video on my own Facebook page everyone went crazy for it. The views went up over 10,000 in a week. Enjoy!

(I'll always be jealous of Evan's whistling...)

Mind & Booty - A Fresh Approach

Hello lovely people of the interwebs. I know I've played with your heartstrings several times over the years with my comings and goings on this page. The truth is I never felt like I could fully commit to your hungry ears. I was intimidated by the grand task of supplying everyone with the best of the best, when really I think the best thing I could have done is supply you with myself.

This is me. Clearly I mean business.
Recently someone came into my life who relit a fire within me that has been dark for about a decade. I feel like I'm able to experience music again in that same intensely personal way. Usually people listen to music to feel connected to something. When I'm near this person, I feel like we are music. (When I'm driven to say extremely corny things, that is usually when I am most serious. HA.) I have no idea when I'll see him again, but I am trying to harness that energy to kickstart a movement inspired by his own approach to music that I have re-adopted as my own. Mind and Booty.

This is what my brain looks like.
We all go through emotional ups and downs as we travel through this labyrinth we call life, and somewhere along the way I got sidetracked. I kept asking myself, "What can I do?? What can I do to truly impact the world in a positive way? What part can I play in this elaborate production of existence that will move us forward?" (My internal dialogue is admittedly dramatic!) Really it boiled down to this--- How can I fix everything for everyone who has ever lived?? ---- An impossible task, I agree, but when you are in a place in life where you are completely lost and feel the urge to rescue humanity from itself, it's hard to scale back from this. Now I realise it's simpler than that. Allow me to elaborate.

I recently started teaching piano and voice to relatively young students. You know, the innocent kind that have yet to become jaded by the weight of the world. Last week I gave my one student the theme song to Star Wars. He's a Russian kid, about 9. He asked me for the music, so here I was to deliver it. (He told me he used to love Star Wars when he was 8, and even though he was over it he still wanted to learn to play the song.) We dove right in. Soon we discovered he had never played a triplet before. For some reason sneaking those three notes into one beat made his heart explode with joy! The giggles that ensued every time he reached another set of triplets was so moving. (I almost cried at his reaction to this musical discovery, because I'm a complete dork.) Later that night I was sharing the story with the person mentioned in paragraph number two. He commented how beautiful it would be if we could all return to a place within ourselves where we could truly appreciate the simplicity of a triplet. Recapture our innocence. Now, I have no idea if this is even possible, but I'm sure as hell going to try. This is the same kind of mindset I felt that Jason Mraz was living by when he started writing, "We Sing. We Dance. We Steal Things." His blog is now completely cleared, which feels like an arrow in the heart, but during this whole re-simplification process he wrote almost daily and you could feel the change as he cleansed his spirit. I'm going to do this with you now through sound.

Let's say music can serve one of two purposes--
1. Get people deeper inside their thoughts.
2. Get people out of their heads and into their bodies.

I want to give you both.

Along with our usual writings I am going to start bringing you a segment called, "Mind & Booty," where I'll post two tracks by the same artist that take you in completely different directions-- A moment to explore this range within a single sound. The first installment will be up soon. Hold tight!

This just seemed necessary.

So friends, that's what I want to do in this phase of "the RED BANANA." Help you rediscover yourselves-- Mind & Booty. Let's journey together, shall we? I'll be your captain.

stay fresh,
Lindsay xo
